    Yeji Kim (b. 1989) lives and works in London. She graduated with a B.F.A. from Ewha Womans University and is studying at Goldsmiths University of London, MFA Fine Arts. Her previous exhibitions include: Jazzymas Gallery (Korea, 2013), Santoriny Seoul Gallery (Korea, 2013)

    As the winner of the KCCUK ‘2017 Open Call’, Kim presents her first ever solo show in the UK (27 February ~ 18 March 2017) where she will utilise the space with her 2 dimensional paintings which are each a metaphor for 3 dimensional realities. She will exhibit a series of paintings which explore a sense of the virtual world, inspired by the flatness of images found on social media platforms such as Instagram and the like.

    Jurors Matt Williams (Curator, Institute of Contemporary Arts), Kirsty Ogg (Director, New Contemporaries) and Aaron Cezar (Director, Delfina Foundation) applauded all the applicants for the high maturity of their artistic practices. However, the jury decided to give a solo exhibition opportunity to Yeji Kim in recognition of her potential and the unique articulation of her practice. They enjoyed her continued interest in articulating images from social media and the unique way that she represents this in an installation format.

    The KCCUK Open Call is an exhibition programme at the Korean Cultural Centre UK that provides a springboard within the UK’s competitive art scene for emerging artists of Korean origin. This annual programme is open to various forms of creative artistic expression and communication and through individual and collaborative works attempts to heighten the attention drawn to UK-based Korean artists.

    Yeji Kim’s Open Call Exhibition will run from 27 February - 18 March 2017 at the Korean Cultural Centre UK
